To relieve sickness, preserve the health and assist the recovery of the patients of Cockermouth Community Hospital by providing or assisting in the provision of equipment, facilities and services which are not normally provided by, or ancillary to, those provided by the statutory authorities or by the doctors and to support the comfort of patients.
Where did it all start?
The first meeting of “The League of Friends of the Cockermouth Cottage Hospital” was held on 14th July 1953, when the hospital was run by the West Cumberland Hospital Management Board. Funds came (and still do) from donations and fund raising events. People have also left money to the League in their wills.
